The Young Women's Christian Association of the United States of America is a women's membership movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by the richness of many beliefs and values.
Strengthened by diversity, the Association draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership and power in order to attain a common vision:
Peace, Justice, Freedom, and Dignity for all people.

Women of Achievement Honorees Announced
2008 YWCA Tribute Luncheon Scheduled
The YWCA of Greater Des Moines and Premier Sponsor Bankers Trust is proud to recognize outstanding women in the greater Des Moines community for their commitment to volunteer service. Each year, the YWCA looks to honor individuals who work to empower women and promote racial justice. We are pleased to announce the 2008 honorees for its annual Women of Achievement Awards Luncheon to be held Wednesday, June 4 at the Polk County Convention Complex, 11:30 a.m.
They are Nancy Bobo, Barbara Jean Long, Behnaz Soulati, and Christie Vilsack. Additionally, Willie Stevenson Glanton will receive the Mary Louise Smith Racial Justice Award. Also, Chalissa Wilson will receive the Young Woman of Achievement Award.
