Sarah Vandersall
Our Patagonia, Dowsing for Water
drawings, sculptures and installation

Nov 14 - Dec 10

Artist reception FRIDAY, NOV. 14, 5-8 p.m.

Vandersall questions the role of the consumer as a way to reassess the aesthetic value of the discarded object. It is at this moment in the objects’ aesthetic evolution that Vandersall showcases its utopian origins and possibilities, calling attention not only to a culture of waste, but to our culture’s inability to attach aesthetic value to an object that has been used rather than created for a specific aesthetic purpose.

Vandersall’s work references the history of the materials and the pictorial order that they utilize, while attempting to make ideal images/objects that do not contain an overt cultural critique, but rely on the viewer’s ability to link these works with culture as a filter.

Sarah Vandersall is a MFA graduate from University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, recently finished an Urban Culture Project studio residency in KCMO and has taught sculpture at Longview Community College in Lee’s Summit, MO

Community Benefit Shopping Event for the YWCA of Greater Kansas City

Tuesday, December 9th, 5pm - 8pm
7947 Santa Fe Drive
Overland Park, KS 66204

Join us for an evening of shopping with friends while supporting two worthy organizations that share the vision of the economic empowerment of women around the world.

The mission of Ten Thousand Villages (TTV) is to “provide vital, fair income to developing people by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America.” Ten Thousand Villages have been trading fairly for over 61 years and have had a retail store in Overland Park for over eight years.

Ten Thousand Villages of Kansas City, Inc. enjoys being part of the local community as well the global community. One way TTV makes local connections is by partnering with area non-profits, like the YWCA of Greater Kansas City, in Community Benefit Shopping Events to help in fundraising efforts.  During a Community Benefit Shopping Event, TTV donates 15% of its profit to the organization.

Community Benefit Shopping Events are an opportunity to take the stress out of fundraising while partnering with an area non-profit. Visit the Ten Thousand Villages website here.
