Meet Our CEO

Gloria Lau
Gloria Lau was named the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA USA effective September 13, 2010. She has 30 years of experience in the nonprofit, finance and business sectors and is charged with leading the 150-year organization into the future.

A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and the Harvard Business School, Lau was CEO of Charles Schwab Tokio Marine, and one of the first women to serve as the head of a financial services business in Japan. She also was responsible for the company’s Asia business based in Hong Kong, business development in Latin America, and a brokerage business in London. She served as Senior Vice President for Global Marketing at Citicorp in New York City.

Her volunteering with the YWCA Chinatown, led to positions as a trustee and then as President of the Board for the YWCA San Francisco & Marin. She also served as Board President of the YWCA Pacific Region, which consists of associations in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Hawaii. In 2008, Lau was elected to the YWCA USA National Coordinating Board (YWCA USA’s Board of Directors).

From 2009-2010, Lau was the Interim CEO for YWCA Hawaii Island where she led a successful turnaround of that association. In one year, she created financial stability, strengthened community relations, and improved staff morale.
