Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events Calendar

Throughout the month of October, YWCA Northeast Indiana will host several events to raise awareness of domestic violence. See what we have planned below!

 

Flowers on the Rivers

Monday, October 2, 2017

5:30 p.m.

Lawton Park, 1900 North Clinton. Please join us as YWCA Northeast Indiana launches Domestic Violence Awareness Month by honoring those whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. There will be a short ceremony, followed by a procession to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge where flowers will be thrown off of the bridge and into the St. Mary’s River in honor of each person whose life was impacted by domestic violence this past year. Special thanks to Moring’s Flowers for donating the flowers for this event.

Please note the event starts at a new location this year at the Lawton Park Pavillion by the Kids Crossing playground. Parking is available off of Fourth Street, in the parking lot adjacent to the playground.

Meet on the courthouse square for the “Chalk it Up Event” with the YWCA, bring your families, kids, grandkids, school groups, etc.
It is a program where people use sidewalk chalk to right or draw encouraging and positive words and pictures about healthy relationships.
The event is expected to last an hour.

The conference will have speakers from many area agencies, including the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center and Kerry Bennett, Legal Counsel for Indiana Coalition against Domestic Violence.
