YWCA Coulee Region/La Crosse

Adaptive Activities

The YWCA initiated the Adaptive Physical Recreational Opportunities (A-PRO) program in 2002 to address the health and wellbeing of physically disabled children in the greater La Crosse area. Our program provides annual and seasonal group activities, such as hand cycling, adaptive downhill and cross country skiing, and swimming, and an equipment lending library, or free rentals of adaptive equipment that is often too costly for families to purchase independently for their children. The A-PRO program also provides services and adaptive equipment to community outreach centers, school physical education classes and local sporting events.

Our program has proven successful in improving coordination and muscle strengthening and conditioning; improving self confidence to perform physical activities; promoting physical and emotional independence and encouraging lifetime recreational pursuits by providng inclusive environments for these children.

We are swimming every Wednesday at Logan High School from 5:30-6:15pm. For more informaiton on A-PRO, please contract Activities Director Lisa Mathson at (608) 781-2783 ext. 226 or email lmathson@ywcalax.org.
