Evanston/North Shore

Allied Against Violence

Allied Against Violence, a partnership between YWCA Evanston/North Shore and Y.O.U. (Youth and Opportunity Unlimited), empowers teenage males to become community spokespersons on issues of building healthy relationships and preventing violence against women. Following an extensive 10-week training, a select group go on to serve as formal interns, implementing public awareness campaigns that enlist their peers, families, and the broader community in standing up against violence.

The partnership engages young men in Evanston as advocates in reducing sexual and domestic violence and builds alliances across genders and generations to prevent domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The project includes mentors from Northwestern University.

Allied Against Violence brings together two organizations with expertise and resources critical to the success of the project. Y.O.U. has deep, trusting relationships with young men, the target population. In addition to providing comprehensive domestic violence services to women and their children, YWCA Evanston/North Shore has a long history of building curriculum and doing trainings in schools on building healthy relationships. YWCA also works with colleges and universities on issues of campus dating violence.
