Come share delicious food, great music, and good company. Please join us as we look back at the amazing women we’ve honored over the last decade and learn more about the important work of YWCA Evanston/North Shore.

YWomen nomination criteria and history
YWCA President and CEO Karen Singer (second from left) with 2016 YWomen Leadership Award honorees Amita Lonial, Evonda Thomas-Smith, and Julie Smolyansky.

YWCA Evanston/North Shore presents three YWomen Leadership awards each fall. Two of these awards are granted to women who have demonstrated impact in the areas of women's empowerment and racial justice. A third, the Lorraine H. Morton Young Woman of Promise award recognizes a woman under the age of 35 who shows promise in working towards social change. Through 2014, we also honored an organization each year.

  • Live, work or volunteer in the YWCA Evanston/North Shore service area (bounded by Devon Avenue on the south, I-294 on the west, and Lake Cook Rd. on the north)
  • Demonstrated a commitment to social change within the framework of the YWCA lens (gender, racial and economic justice) and have garnered respect within her community

The final group of nominees must represent the diversity of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore community.

If there is a woman you'd like to nominate, let us know!

Proceeds

Proceeds from the event help support YWCA Evanston/North Shore programs and services that empower women, including domestic violence services, financial literacy, and education in the areas of violence prevention and racial justice.
