Our Impact
Across the globe, the YWCA has more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2.6 million members and participants in 300 local associations in the United States. More important than these numbers, is our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women's rights and civil rights in Congress.
Women come to us in times of crisis, as survivors of rape or domestic violence. They come for job training and career counseling. They come for health and wellness. They come for a variety of reasons. But they come. And they leave with a renewed spirit, new skills, and stronger lives.
Local Impact
Established locally in 1923, the YWCA of the Greater Triangle is a voice for women and a force for change in our community, making a critical difference in the lives of area women and their families.
The YWCA empowers women with job training, money management and leadership development programs. We promote social justice with community dialogues and advocacy. Our efforts to improve wellness are accomplished through a myriad of health screening and prevention services for medically underserved people of all ages. The YWCA also supports older adults with programs that enhance and enrich their lives. And we develop positive self-esteem in our area youth through afterschool and summer camp programs.
Our Vision
Never in the organization’s history has our mission to eliminate racism and empower women been more important than it is today. Join the YWCA today and help us realize our clear vision for the future:
- Finding solutions to inequalities due to racial, cultural and economic disparities.
- Fostering the economic empowerment of women and their families.
- Supporting women through transitions at all ages and stages of life.
- Increasing leadership development opportunities for women and girls.
- Enriching the lives of older adults while allowing them to live independently.
- Enhancing youths’ cultural competence through development of healthy habits, commitment to learning, and development of positive self-esteem.
- Helping women and their families make healthful choices.
