The YWCA Aurora's Racial Justice program helps Aurora residents to understand, challenge and to eliminate racism. The YWCA provides a forum for open dialogue on racism and cultural diversity. Current Racial Justice programs include:
- Racial Justice for middle school students helps create racism awareness and promotes understanding and acceptance of cultural difference and diversity (In partnership with Communities in Schools)
- A series of six (6) video and group discussions designed to create awareness to race and diversity issues
The YWCA Aurora's Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) initiative provides women with resources to advance their earning potential and to strengthen their personal power. WEE programs include:
- Bright Future Females (BFF) provides middle school girls with tools for decision-making, leadership skills and advocacy skills (In partnership with Aurora Township and Fox Valley United Way)
- Women's Economic Empowerment promotes increased confidence and self-esteem; provides tools for setting goals; and provides instruction on money-management and healthy living skills to young women (In partnership with Fox Valley United Way)
- Truancy Alternative Program (TAP) provides on-site day care for infants of teen students which helps young mothers to complete their high school education or obtain a GED certificate
- CACFP Program provides partial reimbursement to female-owned day care centers for providing healthy foods and nutrition information (In partnership with the USDA and ISBE)
- The YWCA after-school program provides homework supervision, physical activity and a healthy snack for school-age children with working parents (In partnership with Fox Valley United Way and Aurora Township)
