A note about parent workshops...
Our diverse group of instructors provide research-based, parent-tested, yet practical techniques in a friendly, and non-threatening manner. They bring a wealth of experience serving children and families. And, best of all, parents love us!  Session after session, we're told that parents are actually changing their parenting practices as a result of these workshops. One parent commented, "This was the most helpful parenting class I ever had."
Contact Marie Rene at (847) 662-4247 ext: 132 for more information.

Parenting Workshops
"Understanding developmental stages are essential to good parenting. Very frequently, parents may get angry or frustrated about behavior that is perfectly normal for a child's age." - Laura L. Wetzel author of Teaching Parents of Young Children

Teen Moms Program
Today’s parents face pressure from every direction.  Sometimes, it’s even harder for adults to cope.  The YWCA offers young mothers a personal mentor to help them prepare the best life possible for themselves and their babies. Mentors guide teens on their road to self-sufficiency by helping them address their housing, education, parenting skills, employment, and financial planning issues.  We also help them strengthen the support mechanisms within their extended families and the community at large.
Call Jontelle Flowers at (847) 662-4247 to register.

Group sessions will be held monthly on the following topics:
Infant and Child First Aid, CPR/ Child Safety in the Home/ Child Development

Developmental Screening

The YWCA Lake County now offers developmental screenings using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire to ensure that your child is reaching developmental milestones.  Each questionnaire covers five key areas of development: communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, and personal-social.  Parents will participate in all aspects of screening and be directed to early intervention services if any signs of a possible developmental delay are detected.  Early detection is the best prevention. Less than 50% of children with developmental delays are identified before starting school, by which time significant delays may have already occurred and opportunities for treatment have been missed.

If you have concerns about your child’s development or would like to schedule a screening, call Elvira Ortega at (847) 662-4247 ext:125.
