How to prevent obesity in children

YWCA Lake County will host a seminar to prevent obesity in Children on Monday, July 26 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Health specialists will discuss why children are obese, causes and consequences of obesity; what can teachers, child care providers and parents do to prevent a child from becoming obese. Parents and teachers have been invited to participate in this presentation. The audience will be able to ask questions, obtain information and share experience on this topic.  

Medical doctors, nutritionists, food program representatives and fitness instructors are donating their time to join us in support this campaign to preventing obesity in children and help them be healthy, for the benefit of their families, themselves and the community.

The rest of the schedule is:

July 28 ($7.00) 6:30pm - 8:30pm: Healthy Recipes - Interactive training to learn ways to make nutritious snacks and meals while keeping kids safe in the kitchen.

July 30 (FREE) 9:30am - 11:00am: Healthy Coloring Books, activities and snacks for children ages 3-5 years old.

August 23 ($7.00) 6:30pm - 8:30pm: Activities to Avoid Obesity - Learn what obese means and different activities the kids love enjoy and at the same time stay fit.

August 25 ($7.00) 6:30pm - 8:30pm: Providers and Parents working together as Models of Healthy Nutrition - Learn the importance of sleep, good nutrition, and exercise and how to model this for the children in your care.

September 20 ($7.00) 6:30pm - 8:30pm: Cultivating your home vegetable garden - Learn how to create a garden and include the children in your care.

September 22 ($7.00) 6:30pm - 8:30pm: What is in that...Importance of reading and understanding food labels - Learn how to read food labels to incorporate the right foods into your program.

All sessions take place at the YWCA Lake County, 2133 Belvidere Rd., Waukegan, and registration is required to attend.
