YWCA St. Louis Head Start and Early Head Start
YWCA St. Louis Head Start provides 2,650 preschoolers from income-eligible families in St. Louis City and County the educational and social tools they need to prepare for kindergarten and elementary school success. The federally funded Head Start program is recognized as one of the most cost-effective and successful programs in the nation for children. The YWCA Early Head Start program assists low-income families with infants and toddlers by promoting healthy prenatal outcomes, enhancing the development of very young children, and emphasizing healthy family functioning. 185 infants and toddlers and 30 pregnant women are served by this program. Head Start and Early Head Start services are provided through a network of 16 YWCA sites, and facilities operated by a delegate agency ( the Urban League) and 14 community based child care partners.
