The most valuable donation you can give to support victims of violence is your time. There is something for everyone at the YWCA Center for Safety and Empowerment, whether your interest is working directly with survivors of violence, helping with outreach or other types of support.
Special Event Volunteer
Special event volunteers help with a wide variety of projects to match the needs of those we serve and the skills of our volunteers. There is at least one open volunteer opportunity each month.
Common volunteer opportunities include...
Event and fundraiser support
Child care
Staffing information booths
Transportation and moving (volunteers with trucks needed!)
Shelter projects
Gardening
Office support
Holiday Store help
Food bank organization
Public speaking
Food preparation
Volunteers may sign up for volunteer opportunities after completing an orientation. Volunteer orientation is offered at the YWCA on the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30-6:30. Volunteers may be male or female but must at least 16 and willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.
To become a Special Event Volunteer:
1. Fill out a volunteer application
2. Bring your completed application to the monthly volunteer orientation on the first Tuesday of each month at the YWCA from 5:30-6:30.
3. Start getting e-mails offering volunteer opportunities and sign up!
Internship or Practicum
An internship or practicum at the CSE provides students the opportunity to have a role in the day-to-day functioning of a non-profit organization while advancing a valuable cause. The tasks of an intern are flexible enough to benefit students in virtually any field of study.
To become an intern:
1. Contact the YWCA during business hours about availability
2. Fill out and submit a volunteer application
3. Schedule a volunteer interview with the Director of Victim’s Services
4. Attend a 30-40 hour advocate training
