The YWCA Greater Cleveland is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

The YWCA Greater Cleveland envisions a community where equity for all is a reality, not a challenge.
The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world. Across the globe, we have more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2.6 million members and participants in 300 local associations in the United States.
More important than the numbers is our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women’s and civil rights in Congress.
Women come to the YWCA Greater Cleveland for career counseling, GED training and high-quality early childhood education. They come as young women transitioning out of foster care who need the support to create independent, vibrant lives. They come to learn the skills they need to climb their career ladders, to engage in dialogue around diversity and racial equity and to challenge one another to become more effective leaders. And they leave with a renewed spirit, new skills and stronger lives.
The following words were taken from the minutes of the very first annual meeting of the YWCA Greater Cleveland in 1868. From the beginning, the YWCA Greater Cleveland has existed to empower women, to support and educate them, and to provide them with the tools they need to create fulfilling lives.
“In the bustle and activity of the age, women are following hard after the men. Not satisfied with their quiet country homes, many of them press their way to the cities…Clothed in noble principles and sidewalk-sweeping skirts, virtuous Christian women assumed the responsibility of the venturesome working girl.”
