Swim Instructor (Part-Time)

Job Description: The Swim Instructor maximizes member experiences by providing quality fitness programming in the areas of swim instruction and member services. The Swim Instructor ensures a safe, nurturing, and fun learning environment for members and guests at all times. The Swim Instructor is an integral part of the YWCA team to create a sense of community through each member's experience in Kokokahi.

Minimum Qualifications: (Current certification in the following is preferred)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid
- American Red Cross CPR

Desired Qualifications:
- Water Safety Instruction Certificate

Knowledge and Skills:
-Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills
- Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills
- An understanding of facility rules, policies and procedures
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to evaluate situations and to make decisions

Responsibilities:
- Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives
- Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
- Cover all material required in a level
- Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
- Complete records and reports
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions
- Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Background in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Education, related field preferred
- Current First Aid, CPR
- Passing grade for YWCA Exercise Evaluation within 6 months of hire.

Job Description and Qualifications

Business Development Specialist – Full-time, Hourly

 

The Patsy T. Mink Center for Business & Leadership (“MCBL”) exists under the auspices of the YWCA of O`ahu to provide quality education and development for the economic advancement of professional women in Hawaii.

The Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for planning, marketing and coordinating training and development programs for MCBL. This position requires a person with attention to detail and professionalism who is dedicated to helping women from all backgrounds develop the skills and expertise they need to become successful small business owners and leaders in their organizations.

Essential Duties

-      Assist Director in collaborating, planning, scheduling and assisting in the delivery of small business/entrepreneur training and development curriculum.

-         Create marketing material, communicate events (e.g. MCBL website, Member Services Desk) to promote events and attain optimum enrollment and participation. Work closely with Advisory Board Marketing Committee and YWCA Marketing department in marketing and communication for MCBL.

-         Manage and maintain the system(s) used for on-line training, counseling, mentoring and networking services, and website(s).  Serve as the technical expert and liaison with vendors and YWCA IT department.

-       Develop and facilitate/moderate all on-line MCBL programs in coordination with Director, MCBL Advisory Board members, trainers/speakers, and volunteers to prepare effective training material, visual aids and interactive forum, seminars, classroom and on-line workshops.

-         Assist in event planning, coordinating and execution of MCBL-YWCA programs and services, including facilities and banquet coordination with support from YWCA staff, MCBL Advisory Board and volunteers.

Other Duties

-         Assist Director in managing day-to-day MCBL office operation and maintain quality control on tasks performed by volunteers who assist with administrative duties such as reception, customer/client/member services, database maintenance (on-line and paper files), event preparation/logistics, reports and other administrative duties.

-         Provide administrative assistance to Director for special projects, Advisory Board Meetings, YWCA and MCBL committees, and SBA Standard Operating Procedures and report requirements.

-        Ensure quality and privacy control of client and volunteer database; and tracking of evaluations and client feedback for continuous improvement.

·         Coordinate and train administrative volunteers, orients new volunteers, answer general program inquiries via phone and emails.  

-         Adhere to SBA and YWCA policies and consistently upholds established procedures and processes pertaining to membership, hospitality, and YWCA programs.

-         Cross-train and serve as back up for MCBL Program Counselor.

Qualifications

-        Proficient computer skills including web design, social media, and relational database systems.

-        Advance skills in training and development technology and delivery.

-         Intermediate project management skills, from concept to implementation, with experience in successfully managing complex projects that involve multiple participants to achieve results.

-        Ability to work alone as well as in teams in an office environment.

-        Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet needs of target market.

-        Has valid driver’s license and car for transportation and travel for off-site events.

Education and Experience

-         3-5 years’ experience in entrepreneurship, business management, marketing and communication skills (interpersonal, written, oral, graphic communication).

-      2 years’ experience in adult learning curriculum development and training delivery

-         Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, e-marketing and Internet tools.

-        Experience in program administration for non-profit provider, including working with and coordinating volunteers or equivalent is preferred.

-         Bachelor’s degree or commensurate successful work experience.

Oversight and Accountability

-         The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Director of MCBL.

Compensation

This is a full-time position as an employee of the YWCA of Oahu with compensation and YWCA benefits commensurate with qualifications. This position is non-exempt status which means that the incumbent is eligible for overtime pay that exceeds 40-hours per work, subject to advance approval by Director.

The Program Counselor is primarily responsible for providing one-on-one counseling to clients, maintaining client and customer relationships, and ensuring quality control of documentation for client files and SBA reports. This position requires a person with energy, empathy and unbiased counseling to help women from all backgrounds develop the skills and expertise they need to become successful small business owners and leaders in their organizations.

Essential Duties

-        Provide one-on-one and small group counseling for MCBL potential and existing clients and members. Guide clients with setting goals, assessing skill and knowledge gaps, identifying training needs and resources to achieve goals.

-         Lead coordinator for MCBL counseling program with assistance of volunteer coordinator to match clients with the appropriate volunteer technical-expert counselors, and maintain appropriate measurements and reports.

-         Lead coordinator for event planning and logistics for MCBL-YWCA programs and services, including facilities and banquet coordination with support from YWCA staff, MCBL Advisory Board and volunteers.

-         Assist in promoting MCBL programs and services at outreach events and public relations in person and through various marketing channels to ensure optimum enrollment and participation in all MCBL events.

-        Build and maintain relationships with MCBL clients, YWCA members, volunteers and supporters.

-         Maintain database of members and clients served; and tracking of performance and activity according to SBA and YWCA guidelines and requirements. Complete required electronic and paper reports, program activities and various reports associated with each client, customer, volunteer, donor and overall program.

Other Duties

-        Assist the Director in complying with federal grant budget, evaluation and service delivery requirements and SBA electronic report requirements.

-       Assist in the overseeing the daily operations of the center, including responding to clients, communicating with partner and referral agencies and supporting general daily operating needs.

-         Assist in monitoring programs to meet stated goals. Consistently collect, organize and report outputs and outcomes for grants and AUW reporting. May help prepare reports on program evaluations, member satisfaction, and volunteer feedback.

-        Adhere to SBA and YWCA policies and consistently upholds established procedures and processes pertaining to membership, hospitality, and YWCA programs.

-         Cross-train and serve as back up for MCBL Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

-        Candidate should possess strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills.

-        Skilled in project development and implementation, with experience in successfully managing complex projects that involve multiple participants to achieve results.

-       Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet needs of target market.

-         Has valid driver’s license and car for transportation and travel for off-site events.

Education and Experience

-        7 years’ experience as small business owner, business banking and/or marketing.

-        Technically capability with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and Internet tools.

-       Experience in working directly with low-income populations is preferred.

-        Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience.

 Oversight and Accountability

-       The Program Counselor reports directly to the Director of the MCBL.
