Kimberly Miyazawa Frank is the new CEO of YWCA of O‘ahu 
Frank begins her position with the YWCA in mid-January 2012

YWCA of O‘ahu has named Kimberly Miyazawa Frank, Esq., as its new chief executive officer. Frank brings a substantial background in advocacy for women, girls and racial equality; organizational development; fundraising; and nonprofit leadership. She will begin her position with the YWCA in mid-January 2012.

“After an extensive search, we are excited to have found someone right here in Hawaii who meets our qualifications and will bring both experience and passion to the YWCA of Oahu,” said Lissa Guild Eveleth, chair of the executive search committee and chair of the YWCA Board of Directors. “We are confident Kimberly will infuse a new energy into the services and programs at the YWCA and provide the necessary strategic direction for the staff.”

Frank has been the principal at Kimberly Frank Consulting since 2006. Her primary responsibility was to incorporate best practice strategies through strategic planning, executive development and coaching, leadership succession planning, strategic communication, change management and training. Previously, she was the organizational development manager at Servco Pacific, Inc.

Join us for a breakfast meeting with members of our state’s 2012 Hawai‘i Women’s Legislative Caucus, to discuss their current agenda. Learn about legislative issues that may affect you and the rest of our community.

As an added networking benefit, a number of additional women-focused organizations will be represented, including the Hawai'i State Commission on the Status of Women.

Information will also be shared about the Hawai‘i Legislature's Public Access Room (PAR), which serves the citizens of Hawai‘i by providing facilities, services and equipment to enhance their ability to participate in the legislative process.

New Karate Class at Kokokahi begins Jan. 17
Learn traditional Okinawan Karate, focusing on the cultural and self-defense martial traditions!
 

Karate at Kokokahi begins Nov. 1

The 10-week session begins Jan. 17, on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Sensei Angel Lemus of Zentokukai Karate Association will teach Okinawan Shorin-ji ryu Karate.

The session fee is $30 with current YWCA membership. Annual membership has an additional cost of $50.

New Enrichment Classes at Kokokahi 
Yoga begins Jan. 9, Tai Chi continues Jan. 16; free for YWCA members
 


Kokokahi YWCA launches a new course of Yoga classes on Jan. 9 as a 4-week course; Tai Chi classes will also continue with a new session beginning Jan. 16 as an 8-week course. Both will be conducted at the Kane'ohe facilities.

Registrants can sign up to take either class, free for current YWCA annual members, and $50 for guests, which includes the annual membership dues for one year.

Yoga at Kokokahi will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in Atherton Hall. To register online, please click here.

Instructor Amanda Webster describes her class: "Perfect for all levels, informative for new students and challenging enough for experienced practitioners! Participants will be encouraged to practice with intelligence and self-awareness as we explore the components of physical, mental and spiritual wellness."

Kimberly Miyazawa Frank,
new CEO of YWCA of O'ahu

She brings a rich background in nonprofit leadership and fundraising. Frank currently serves on the board of directors for St. Andrew’s Priory Alumnae Association, The Coalition for Tobacco Free Hawaii and Legacy of Life Hawaii. Most recently she was the chair of the Honolulu Symphony Society and president of the Junior League of Honolulu. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University and her Juris Doctor from Rutgers University. She is a Fellow with the Asian Pacific American Women’s Leadership Institute.  Frank is a graduate of St. Andrew’s Priory School.

YWCA Laniākea launches a new 8-week session of Hot Hula fitness on Tuesday, January 3rd, with new instructor Julee Nishimura!

Learn Self-Defense and TaeKwon-Do at Laniākea
New session taught by TaeKwon-Do Honolulu begins November 2

An eight week course on TaeKwon-Do and self-defense will be held at YWCA Laniākea beginning on November 2.

The YWCA of O‘ahu is partnering with a group of Hawai'i nonprofits for a new program called Wahine Moving Forward. This new program will train volunteer mentors to guide domestic violence survivors toward financial security and independence.
