Opening Doors to Meaningful Career Options
CAFÉ Y motivates teens to stay in school and provides practical food service experience in the setting of a working restaurant.
In collaboration with the State Department of Education, this 10-week after-school program incorporates leadership, team-building and professional etiquette as important skills for "life after high school."
Participants learn to slice, dice and puree under the instruction of an Executive Chef and guest chefs from local restaurants and hotels. Classes are in the YWCA’s Café Laniākea, a working restaurant. Each student will receive a personal chef's jacket.
Participants will learn all about the business by visiting a Honolulu restaurant and food service company. At the end of each 10-week session, they put on a final event to demonstrate their newly learned skills.
