Congratulations to our 2014 LeaderLuncheon Honorees!

The YWCA of O’ahu was fortunate to receive many nominations from the community members advocating exceptional women in Hawai’i. Our 2014 LeaderLuncheon Honorees are:

Marilyn Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano

Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator, University of Hawai‘i

Marilyn has served in the UH Athletics department for almost 25 years. Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano was instrumental in UH’s first gender equity plan, “If You Let Us Play…” which was updated to the “Just Do It” plan in 2002. These plans more than doubled the opportunities for female athletes at UH, from less than 100 to over 230; added five sports, and increased the budgets for women’s teams.

The Honorable Karen Radius

Retired Founding Girl’s Court Judge, Family Court of the First Circuit

Judge Radius was the founding judge of the Juvenile Drug Court in 2001 and the Girls Court in 2004. Girls Court provides open court room sessions and gender specific programming for girls and their families.  This innovative gender responsive program was recognized by the federal Office of Juvenile Justice Detention Prevention (OJJDP) as a Best Practice data based approach.

Cecile Sebastian, D.D.S.

General & Implant Dentist, Founder, Smiles for Success

Dr. Sebastian is a vigorous and tireless leader in the community and has dedicated her life to service of the highest order. She volunteers at the Hawaii Foodbank, Aloha Medical Mission, Give Kids a Smile, and Donated Dental Services and recently created the non-profit, Smiles for Success, an organization that offers dental services and supplies to economically disadvantaged women.

Helen Wai

Financial Literacy Consultant, Speaker, & Trainer

Helen has built her business upon first-hand financial hardship and success. As a consultant, she has been assisting communities and organizations in the areas of financial literacy, homebuyer education, foreclosure prevention, lease cancellation, and energy efficiency throughout the State of Hawaii and nationally.
