The vision for the
Young LeaderLuncheon
is that it mirrors the YWCA’s signature leadership award event, LeaderLuncheon.  The LeaderLuncheon highlights female leaders in their communities that exemplify the YWCA’s value of being the agents of change, the Young LeaderLuncheon highlights the youthful version of those 'change agents.'

This scholarship program highlights 'ordinary girls doing extraordinary things' and is the only scholarship in Hawaii where teenage girls evaluate the applications and make the final award decisions to grant scholarships to other teenagers.

Young Women
Ages 14-19

The vision of active young girls at the YWCA of O`ahu is deeply rooted in our past with formidable teen advocacy groups like the Girl Reserves and Y-Teens.  We provided leadership opportunities, training and experience to girls in the past and are rewarded in this present day by seeing girls from those groups function as successful leaders in the community.

The Youth Advisory Board (YAB), whose members are teenage girls ages 14-19, meets twice monthly with the goal of increased community involvement and advocacy.  With the vision that young women achieve the same strength that women of all ages receive from their involvement with the YWCA of O`ahu as leaders, that they can articulate the issues that impact the lives of their peer group in our community and are able to speak in a meaningful way about not only those issues but girls’ issues in Hawaii, the USA and the world.  The YAB members examine these issues and become advocates for improving the environment around them in a way that prepares them for stepping into whatever arenas they choose with the same kind of commitment to change.  They become agents for and of change.

The vision for the group continues to be realized as the girls define community projects and causes they want to support and look for ways to impact those causes, such as their proposed 'We Can' project, a recycling project designed to raise funds for another youth focused community non-profit.
