Heritage Elm Society
The Heritage Elm Society is made up of friends of the YWCA whose annual gifts make a significant difference in the lives of women, children and families. Membership levels begin at $1,000. Join Heritage Elm Society now.
The Legacy Branch of the Heritage Elm Society is for cumulative cash gifts of $100,000+, and for estate gifts through wills, life insurance, and trust. Legacy gifts are a wonderful way to share your success with people in need in our community long into the future. Used Cell Phones Help Women in Crisis
Through a unique partnership, we collect old cell phones (sorry, we cannot accept battery chargers, cases or other accessories) and send them to a company that refurbishes the phones to dial 911 only for use by women escaping abuse. The YWCA also receives cash for each cell phone donated. Mail or drop off your old cell phones to the YWCA's downtown facility at 1111 SW 10th Avenue, Portland OR 97205.
Gifts of Stock or Mutual Funds
A gift of stock or mutual funds may be more favorable than a cash donation. You may be able to reduce your income taxes significantly with a gift of stock, and you may also be able to avoid capital gains taxes. If you are planning to make a gift of stock, please contact the Development Office at (503) 294-7480 for information about our brokers. We will provide you with an information sheet and a sample letter to facilitate the transfer. Please note that your name will not accompany the electronic transfer of shares, so it is very important that you notify our staff of your intent. They will then notify our broker or mutual fund company to expect a gift from you and we can prepare the proper acknowledgment to thank you for your generosity.
Donate Household Items to Oregon Community Warehouse
Through partnership with Oregon Community Warehouse we are able to provide household essentials like mattresses, dressers, tables, linens and dishes to our clients and their families to help them get a new start. Oregon Community Warehouse it the only organization in the Portland metro area that provides donated household items for clients at no cost to them.
