Family Literacy
Funded by the United Way and the Grand Victoria Foundation

The YWCA Elgin currently has 35 families enrolled in our Family Literacy program, which serves to “empower the parent to grow the child.” During the regular school year, (Sept – May), adult ESL students attend ESL class while their children attend ESL preschool Mondays thru Thursdays. On Fridays, they join together for special interactive activities.

Recently, the preschool children visited their parents’ ESL classrooms to see how and where their Parents are learning. The pride in the parents’ faces, as their little ones came in, was priceless. This program, and these moments, reinforce the value of education in young lives, and help build families who participate in Education together.
