October 26-30, 2009Purple Light Campaign
|
|
The Purple Light Campaign provides an opportunity for residents, business owners, and city officials in Brown County to express solidarity around eliminating domestic violence in their community. Purple is the symbolic color of domestic violence, and purple lights have long been used to remember victims of domestic violence. The goal of the Purple Light Campaign is to have purple lights shining from porches, business windows, and trees throughout Brown County during the week of October 26-30. The YWCA will send letters in late September inviting the community to participate. |

At 12 pm on September 16th, Clermont County Commissioners will proclaim October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For more information call 513-732-0450.
In collaboration with UC Clermont, the Clothesline Project will be on display the week of October 19-23. The Clothesline Project is a program that was started to address the issue of violence against women. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of violence against women.
Community members may create their own t-shirt to display on Wednesday, Oct 21st.
UC Clermont is located at 4200 Clermont College Drive; Batavia, Ohio 45103. For more information call 513-732-0450.
A closing ceremony that will include a vigil and drumming out violence circles will be held Thursday, October 22nd from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Clermont County Courthouse. | She Screams Without Sound was established in 1988 during a year when over twenty Hamilton County women had been murdered by their intimate partners. Alarmed by the devastating number of victims, employees of Women Helping Women and the YWCA decided to do something to raise awareness in the community, and in the Hamilton County court system. A Candlelight Vigil memorial has been held every October since, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, to honor the murdered women, both known and unknown. In years past, two events were held on the same date, one at noon and the other at dusk, on the steps of the Hamilton County Court House. For this year's 22nd Annual Candlelight Vigil, She Screams Without Sound: Silent No More is hosting two separate events in October. The kick-off event will take place Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 from 12-1:30 pm at Fountain Square. This event will raise awareness about domestic violence, as well as the Candlelight Vigil, which will take place on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 from 6:45-8 pm at the Hamilton County Court House. Click here for more information about this event. Please direct questions/concerns to Leah Holland at 513.977.5550 or Stacey Hall at 513.487.4700. |
