The YWCA of Kalamazoo is the first and oldest YWCA in the state of Michigan. Established in 1885, today we are celebrating more than 120 years of continuous evolution to meet the changing needs of women and families.
The YWCA of Kalamazoo is celebrating its 125th Anniversary year. Check back weekly for an updated fact about your YWCA of Kalamazoo.
A Moment in YWCA Herstory:
In 1989, the YWCA hired Charles Bentz and Associates (now The Bentz Group) from Westfield, NJ to serve as consultant for the next major fund drive – an endowment campaign, one of the first in our community for a non-profit of our size. A goal of $3.5 million was set ($3 million endowment and $500,000 capital) and a Campaign Director was hired. The Opportunity 2000 Campaign Kickoff was held November 30, 1989. The campaign officially ended in 1992, after completing its goal and setting the YWCA on a more stable financial course for the future.
