A Moment in YWCA Herstory:
After 65 years at the Rose Street building (now The Greenleaf Trust Building), changing community needs supported the YWCA’s decision to build a new facility. A successful community-wide capital campaign was underway, and in August 1985, the YWCA moved from our Rose Street location to our current facility at 353 E. Michigan Avenue. An Open House was held on October 6, 1985 and those needing YWCA services were welcomed into our new home, with a shelter specifically designed for victims/survivors of domestic violence and their dependent children, a new child care center, and more. The final payment on the bank loan for this building was made in April 1988.
