Spirit Valley Young Mother's Supportive Housing Program

The YWCA offers young mothers ages 16-21 a safe place to live and supportive services to become self-sufficient. Many of the young women are coming from unsafe situations or homelessness. Supportive services include parenting classes, money management classes, child care, homework assistance and computer lab, advocacy and mentoring.

HOUSING - Secure facility includes:

  • seven apartments providing a safe environment for young moms 16-21 and their children
  • efficiency apartments have a bathroom and kitchenette
  • rent is based on income
  • section 8 vouchers will be used for those who qualify
  • staffed 24/7
  • smoke free and alcohol free environments

CHILDCARE - The facility has a fully licensed, culturally responsive Early Childhood Education Center open to residents and the community. Eligible parents may obtain childcare assistance through St. Louis County Social Services.

EDUCATION - All residents are required to enroll in a high school, a GED program, trade or vocational school or college. Tutoring assistance is available.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES - The ywca’s housing director and spirit valley case manager coordinates supportive services for young moms including:

  • an individual supportive services plan
  • budgeting classes
  • parenting classes
  • employment assistance
  • ...and more

LOCATION - Located within a two mile radius are:

  • eleven parks and playgrounds
  • two clinics
  • five schools
  • post office
  • shopping areas
  • public library
  • fire department
  • grocery store

TRANSPORTATION - A Duluth Transit Authority bus stop is located across from YWCA Spirit Valley.
