Help is at the YWCA

In every era, the YWCA stood for the right of women to be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Today we continue to put that commitment into action through a wide range of programs that reach thousands of women across the country. For many, these Hallmark Programs spell the difference between living out your life as a victim and stepping up to take responsibility for your own life.

"I was in the dark, now I am in the light," said one pregnant teenage high school dropout who recently joined the YWCA's Young Parent Program and is now on her way to college. She speaks for thousands of women who have come to the YWCA in pieces and left whole. But there are thousands more who don't know about the YWCA as a resource - training women seeking new job opportunities, providing childcare for working single mothers, serving as a potential lifesaver for victims of abuse-for anyone in search of practical skills, encouragement, and a friendly hug.

YWCA programs offer career counseling, sex education, support groups, shelters, breast cancer recovery groups, fitness classes, and more. The YWCA gives voice to women's concerns and needs throughout the United States and reaches women all around the world.

Safety

Violence against women takes shape in a multitude of forms including, but not limited to, domestic violence, stalking, rape, sexual assault, the trafficking of women and children, date rape, verbal abuse and harassment, and hate crimes. Violence does not discriminate. All women, regardless of class, ability, age, race, ethnicity, education, immigration status, sexual orientation, and religion can be affected by violence.

The YWCA advocates for policies that will prevent and help eliminate violence against women. And through its programs, the YWCA builds communities in which all people are ensured safety and equal protection under the law.

Success Stories

Across the country, through an extensive network of programs, the YWCA is helping women reclaim their lives and regain their self-esteem. More>
