Standing Up For Justice

The YWCA Pierce County endorses the Approve Referendum 71 on the ballot this November. The YWCA nationally promotes peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all, prompting our agency-wide support.

By voting to Approve Referendum 71, your vote ensures that all families, in all parts of the state, are treated fairly, with the same protections and responsibilities, especially in times of crisis.

Visit the Approve Referendum 71 website for more information here, and join the effort to retain justice for all families.

Psst, Pierce County voters: you need TWO stamps for your mail in ballot!

It's Time to Make Space for Families!
The YWCA Pierce County has offered safe housing to women and children fleeing domestic violence for over 30 years. Due to its size, our current space does not adequately meet the needs of women and children in crisis, so we found a space that does!

The new building purchased (at right) will offer families served with safe housing more space as they heal.

Why move? Bed space will increase by 50%, meaning we serve more women and children in need. Instead of 50 women and children sharing two kitchens, two bathrooms, and tiny 10' x 12' rooms, each family unit will have private apartments with their own kitchen and bathroom.

Our current shelter is small, with no privacy. This makes healing amid a time of crisis more difficult. The new building offers more space to heal, and an opportunity for families to live as families.

We need your support! To contribute to the YWCA's efforts to make space for women and children in need, call or email Jodie at jfortune@ywcapiercecounty.org, or 253-272-4181, ext. 249.

Donation Day
Help our Women's Support Shelter residents by donating gently used clothing and household items! Bring your
donations to the YWCA staff parking lot across from our building at 405 Broadway on the second Saturday of each month, from 10 to 3.

A partnership with the Tacoma Goodwill allows us to manage our clothing and household item donations effectively. The Goodwill accepts donations on our behalf in exchange for vouchers residents can use freely at any Pierce County Goodwill location!
