Each October, we gather to honor a handful of extraordinary women who embody these words and use their leadership to advance racial justice and women’s empowerment. While our purpose is to recognize women leaders, these defining characteristics are in abundance all around us…. in men and women alike, and they were evident in the overflowing room of committed, passionate and engaged people who joined us October 8th for the 2nd annual YWomen Leadership Awards Benefit.
Our 2009 honorees, Dorothy Roberts, Pushpika Freitas, Ebony Joy, and members of the Junior League of Evanston-North Shore, not only believe change is possible, they take responsibility for making it happen. They have challenged us to think, to understand, and to act in new ways to make the world a more just and equitable place for all….Inspiration, passion, vision, conviction, purpose.
