YWCA and Allstate featured on WCIU to Discuss Economic Abuse
YWCA Metropolitan Chicago and the Allstate Foundation will be featured in video segments airing on WCIU’s You & Me This Morning highlighting the issue of economic abuse. The pieces focus on the YWCA's Economic Empowerment Services and how they assist with prevention and recovery from economic abuse. Attend the YWCA Self-Care Group for College Survivors of Assault
This is a free group for college women* who are coping with the effects of sexual assault in their lives. A group offers a safe and supportive environment where members can get new information, share ideas, and learn coping skills. Issues specific to college students will be discussed along with specific issues raised by group members. This group will provide information about sexual assault and its impact on thoughts, feelings and behavior.
Topics Covered Include:
- Sexual assault on college campuses
- Common reactions to sexual assault
- Learning coping skills
- Increasing self-care
- Coping with the demands of college life after a sexual assault
This group will meet once per week for 8 weeks at YWCA Uptown beginning:

YWCA Says "Enough" to Violence Against Women Wuring Week Without Violence
YWCA's across the country will mark their 2009 YWCA Week Without Violence™ on October 18-24. The YWCA Week Without Violence is a nationwide annual campaign that highlights practical, sustainable alternatives to violence in our homes, schools, workplaces and communities. The week highlights the work of local YWCA associations which provide comprehensive resources to millions of people around the country to help end violence against women and eradicate violence from their lives and communities. A grassroots initiative when it began in 1995, the YWCA Week Without Violence is now a global campaign involving hundreds of American communities and countries around the world.
