The YWCA efforts are directly focused as being a community leader in offering social service programs. Along with the Transitional Living Program the YWCA continues to offer those programs that have become recognized as community service staples.

  • The YWCA Summer Food Program is one of the leading food programs in the state of Ohio. In 2010, the YWCA served 12,612 meals to free to children and also provided free recreation for 9 weeks during the summer in Van Wert County. The program was designed to ensure that those children that received free lunches during the school year would not go hungry during their summer vacations.
  • Warm Water Arthritis Foundation exercise therapy classes in the unique “moveable-bottom” pool that moves within a range of 6ft and offers entrance for handicap individuals, specifically wheelchairs.
  • Swim lessons for adults and children along with water fitness classes are also offered.
  • The national “Week Without Violence” programs held in October that promotes anti-violence messages to all age levels.
  • Annual free self-defense class is offered to the community.
  • The “Women Empowering Women” mentoring program connects women and children with community members that embrace empowering others.
  • The annual Festival of Trees event held in November that promotes holiday fun and tourism in support of the local economy. This includes Gingerbread Junction and Craft Show, which offers children the opportunity to decorate their very own gingerbread house. The Festival also includes a Holiday Tree Auction and Home Tour.
  • The annual Young Women’s Scholarship worth $1000 is awarded to a Van Wert County graduating senior female who has shown the integrity and character established by the YWCA mission.
