The YWCA of Greater New Orleans is a non-profit, social services organization that has been making a positive difference in people's lives in the greater New Orleans area since 1911. It has been a dynamic force in the New Orleans community for nearly 100 years. This long-standing institution will celebrate its centennial existence on April 11, 2011. At its onset, the YWCA of Greater New Orleans served as a premier organization providing living accommodations and housing for self-supporting women. It has been at the forefront of social change and service delivery for women and girls since its inception. Due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, all programs and services are placed on hold. Although the YWCA has experienced a lack of service capacity, it is currently under recovery.

Despite the recovery, we are YOUR YWCA! A worldwide organization working to empower and protect women, children, and families; help our most vulnerable citizens and promoting equality and the empowerment of women and girls!

Realizing Community Goals
Every day, there are people in New Orleans in crisis… and there are those lifting them up, changing lives. Be a part of the change. Volunteer with the YWCA in providing support to a survivor of domestic violence, help to seniors, quality daycare, and educating individuals on financial empowerment. YWCA volunteers are people like you who have experienced how meaningful it is to be a person of change. Volunteers make our vital work possible. YWCA volunteers are a reflection of the spirit of our community, epitomizing the determination and resilience of its citizens.
