MotherLove/Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention
The YWCA's MotherLove Program matches adult mentors with
pregnant and parenting teens. Mentors provide needed support
and guidance to these young mothers. Group meetings offer
opportunities for education and sharing.
Lunch Bunch is a school-based support group for pregnant and
parenting girls. Informational speakers are brought in and lunch
is provided for attendees. Lunch Bunch is offered at Asheville High
School in partnership with Asheville City Schools Preschool and
Randolph Learning Center. Lunch Bunch is also offered at
Erwin High School.
Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention educational sessions and
one-on-one counseling on pregnancy prevention are provided
to teens throughout the community.
Here's what one MotherLove participant had to say about her experience:
"When I first found out I was pregnant, I really actually thought it was just all over…When I got into the
[MotherLove] Program, it taught me that even though I will be someone's mother I can still have a future.
I can only thank them by showing them that I am gonna go on and do something with my life and I am
gonna be somebody in my life…Graduating just feels good - you feel like you completed the goal. It
was tough but worth it, really worth it. Now I can tell my daughter we both walked across the stage."
