YWCA Solar Project

Clean, Renewable Energy
In 2008 FLS Energy installed 30 solar thermal panels
on the roof of the YWCA to provide energy to heat the water
for the YWCA pool, showers, kitchen and laundry.

Triple Bottom Line Benefits of the Solar Project

Economic
- 20% reduction in YWCA natural gas utility bills.
- Improves long-term financial position…
while fuel and gas prices become more
expensive each year, sunlight will not.

Environmental
- Prevents 18 tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year.
- Has the effect of planting 4200 trees.
- Takes an equivalent of 7 cars off the highway.

Social
The YWCA is leading Buncombe County in energy independence by installing a solar thermal system.
