The YWCA of Bucks County has part-time positions available to work at the Homework Zone after-school program located within elementary schools and family centers throughout Lower Bucks County.
About Homework Zone...
In the Homework Zone, students complete homework, use resources, study for tests, get academic help, and are taught responsibility for their own learning with the guidance and support of actively engaged educators. In addition, students work on skill-building activities and are encouraged to read.
The goal of the Homework Zone program is to help each student develop , a love of reading and learning, good study habits, a healthy self-image, and to create friendships with the students in the program.
Positions for Teachers and Teaching Assistants are available.
Homework Zone Teacher
Summary: To provide academic support for students and leadership for staff to ensure that the program goals are met: help each student improve academic performance, make learning fun, encourage reading, motivate students to attend school everyday, help each student learn time management skills, and help each student achieve a positive self-image.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Implements the Homework Zone program
-
Provides support to children with completing homework assignments and then check for accuracy

Maintains accurate attendance and program records
-
Tracks and reports on outcomes
-
Greets students as they enter the program and facilitates the sign in process
-
Ensures that staff and students know each other by name
-
Ensures teaching materials, prizes, and craft materials are available.

Facilitates communication with families regarding student progress
-
Notifies YWCA supervisor of any needed referrals for crisis intervention situations observed in students, which includes serving as a mandated reporter for incidents of suspected abuse
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises teacher assistants, tutors, volunteer, and other program staff
Qualifications:

Certified Teacher or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or Social Work

Homework Zone Teaching Assistant

Ensures supplementary grade appropriate teaching materials are available

Encourages and rewards program participants for positive behavior, progress, etc.

Assists YWCA teacher in tracking and reporting on outcomes

Assists in the facilitation of communication with families regarding student progress

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Education or related field preferred, or comparable experience working with children
