Positive Youth Development (PYD) provides organized sports activities for children 4-12 years of age. In years of operating the PYD program, the YWCA has become convinced that children benefit strongly when they participate in physical activities that are fun, safe, and that foster a sense of self-worth and belonging. To this end, the PYD program offers sports leagues and swim training, through which boys and girls can develop self-awareness, improve fitness and increase their development of interpersonal skills. PYD uses the Character Counts curriculum to emphasize the life lessons that one can learn from participation in a team situation. PYD brings families together, as PYD parents are coaches in the program. |
