refurbishing program

Our main project is our computer refurbishing and distribution program. CGC collects computers from donations and refurbishes them, using volunteers, students, and staff. We then distribute these computers to recipients that can’t afford one. Although students and women are our main objective, some computers may be distributed to low income families or non-profits.

Every computer comes with a training course that must be completed to receive the computer, and 90 days of hardware and software support. Classes will be held at the YWCA and other partner locations.

Benefiting the environment and improving educational resources, our computer refurbishing program goes far beyond the distribution of computers. Because our program relies on the time and expertise of a volunteer workforce, it provides an opportunity for community members to gain valuable new skills and training that can be used for career enhancement, and in some cases earn credits for school, while reinvesting in their community.
Training is also available to computer recipients. By offering several types of classes we could ease client stress and teach them to use the computer and the software that is provided with it.

This program does not stop there. The personnel used to run the program is also trainees. Education and on-the-job training not only is good experience, looks good on a resume, but it will also put a foot in the door towards a rewarding job. Most employers want people who have training and experience. Getting a job is the ultimate goal for someone who finds themselves in the unemployment line.
