 In the future...

  • In early 2010, we will move into new facilities that better suit our current agency. We'll let you know when the open house will be held!
  • In 210 we will be exploring what direction comes next for the YWCA. We will be researching the needs the needs of women in the Greater Greensboro area within our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. We will seek needs that are not already being addressed and partnerships for the future.
  • To do this, we want to connect, and reconnect, with women in the community who want to create a world of racial and gender equality. Please let us know your thoughts and keep checking back here for updates on our path.

WELCOME

Welcome the YWCA Greensboro website. We are glad you are interested in our organization.

2009 has been a time of huge transition for the ywca. Our current focus is on serving young mothers and their children, and middle school children in an enriching after school program.

  • The highly successful Teen Parent Mentor Program and Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies provide many programs for young mothers. Serving over 300 young teen and young adult women a year, our participants learn how to create a safe, nurturing and enriching home while working towards their own goals. 90% of our teen moms are still in school and 98% delay having another child until they reach age twenty or two years after their last birth.
  • Our after school program continues at Guilford Middle and Aycock Middle schools. Serving this age group gives students a chance to be successful and set goals for their future- which helps them stay in school, avoid substance abuse, and early sexual activity. While this program had to cut several other sites when the NC Support Our Students program was cut across the state, we are thankful of the support from the United Way of Greater Greensboro so we can continue this year.
  • Because of changes in the marketplace and financial challenges in the past several years, this spring we closed our aquatics and fitness programs. Despite several years of serving the community well, the programs were no longer competitive and drained the organizations resources.

We could not have gotten through this trying year without tremendous support from the Greensboro community. Thanks to all of you who have helped the YWCA Greensboro be able to focus on the future.
