 SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE: An information session for women of all ages

SEXUAL HARASSMENT AWARENESS

Shannon Wong conducts Sexual Harassment Awareness Sessions to various agencies and groups throughout the year.

PERSONAL SAFETY AND HARRASSMENT AGAINST WOMEN

The Lions Club sponsored a workshop on November 7, 2006 at 6:30 pm at Johnny D's, Route 211, Middletown. To schedule a similar workshop, contact Shannon Wong or call 845-561-8050 x 23.

THE CLOTHESLINE PROJECT

The Orange County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, co-chaired by the YWCA Orange County and Safe Homes, sponsored three different displays of The Clothesline Project in Orange County this year. The t-shirts were displayed in Middletown, Newburgh and Port Jervis. For more information, contact Shannon Wong or call 845-561-8050 x 23. Photos of the September 2005 display are below.

The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with messages and illustrations that have been designed by women survivors of violence. The Clothesline Project:

  • Increases awareness about the impact of violence in people's lives.
  • Celebrates a woman's strength to survive.
  • Provides another avenue for her to courageously break the silence that often surrounds violence

The Orange County Domestic Violence Coalition: A Public Response to Private Violence

The YWCA Orange County and Safe Homes chair the Orange County Domestic Violence Coalition funded, in part, through a grant from the Orange County Department of Mental Health.

WOMEN'S SELF DEFENSE: Learn How to Fight Back and Stay Safe

On Thursday, September 21, 2006, a self-defense program was held at the Middletown YMCA, 81 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY at 7:30 pm presented by Shannon Wong, YWCA and Joan P. The YWCAUSA sponsors an annual Week Without Violence in October of each year to highlight and teach ways to defuse violence in our society.
