Girls Empowered Through Reading, Engagement and Leadership

(G.E.T. R.E.A.L)

What is GET REAL?

GET REAL is a program sponsored by the YWCA Indianapolis that celebrates female teens that love to read, network, chat, meet new friends, learn and  serve.

Students decide what they read, where they go, and even what kinds of  projects they do.  There are nominated teen officers that help lead the group.

When do the young ladies meet?

They meet once a month to discuss a book that selected as well as other hot topics.  Currently, the meeting date is the third Wednesday every month at designated locations.  We meet from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.  Updates on location are put on our Facebook page.

G.E.T. R.E.A.L. girls also plan one other fun optional activity each month. This could be going to a museum, seeing a play, watching a movie…the opportunities are vote on the activity each month so the schedule and the  costs (free or minimal) will vary.

Who participates in GET REAL?

The YWCA has invited teen girls and young women from across the city to be in the program.  It is a great way to meet new people and make new friends that you would never get to meet.

At every meeting and optional activity, there will always be two adults present.

Will there be food provided at the meetings?

Light refreshments will be provided at the monthly meetings with consideration given to the preferences of the G.E.T. R.E.A.L. girls.

Can participants bring a friend?

The YWCA wants you to bring your friends and they are welcome to come see what a meeting looks like.  After that, we hope they will join and fill out an application!
