“Safe Beginnings: Protecting Mothers, Nurturing Futures,” YWCA’s National Week Without Violence Campaign is October 20-24

Marking the 30th anniversary of YWCA’s national campaign, this year’s theme focuses on safe beginnings for mothers and children.

YWCA is proud to announce its 2025 Week Without Violence, taking place October 20–24, with the theme “Safe Beginnings: Protecting Mothers, Nurturing Futures.” This year marks the 30th anniversary of YWCA’s national campaign, which has mobilized communities across the country since 1995 to take action against all forms of gender-based violence.

This year’s theme centers on the critical need to support mothers and their children as they build hopeful, healthier futures. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, YWCA aims to spotlight the systemic barriers and urgent issues that impact families’ safety and well-being. This year’s campaign highlights the urgent need to address:

  • Maternal and infant health disparities

  • The need for safe, stable housing for families

  • Mothers’ increased risk of experiencing domestic violence

  • Barriers to leaving abusive relationships, including financial abuse and legal challenges

“Safe beginnings are not just about the absence of violence—they’re about creating environments where mothers and children can flourish,” said Margaret Mitchell, CEO of YWCA USA. “This campaign is a call to action to invest in the safety and futures of families.”

Throughout the week, Local YWCA Associations nationwide will host events, share educational resources, and advocate for policies that protect and empower women and children. Community members are encouraged to participate, share stories, and amplify the message that violence is not inevitable, it is preventable.

YWCA extends its sincere thanks to Power Home Remodeling (“POWER”) for their generous support of this year’s Week Without Violence. POWER’s partnership with YWCA is part of the exterior home remodeler’s POWER for Good initiative, a set of employee-led initiatives that place POWER people at the center of its philanthropy. Through giving circles, nonprofit nominations, and voting, POWER amplifies the vision and voices of its employees to shape the entirety of its support to nonprofits across the country.

“As a people-first organization, it’s important that our partnerships are aligned with our values, are meaningful for our employees, and positively impact our communities, and the YWCA is the embodiment of that mission,” said POWER’s Chief People Officer, Hollie Delaney. “We put our employees in the driver’s seat when it comes to selecting causes they care about, and our people were passionate about partnering with YWCA and championing a cause that provides safety, support, and opportunity for women and families.”
